Preston Trading Post started serving the needs of Southern New Enlanders in 1974. Originally part of an active farm, the store opened serving a variety of general merchandise; antiques, tools, clothing, collectibles. Amongst these were wood burning stoves. It would be for the stoves that the store would earn its wide reputation and following.
"One of the world's largest stove dealers" - HearthNet
The store's founder, Jacob Biber, a Holocaust survivor, had spent many years in business. When he retired he started the Preston Trading Post as a way to keep busy. He loved to chat with friends, neighbors, and visitors to the store. Buying and selling was partly business and partly social.
The store opened during the 1st Arab oil-embargo and people were searching for affordable alternative energy solutions. Mr. Biber knew stoves and soon the nation's best manufacturers came knocking! He bought in great volumes and passed the savings on which led to rapid growth and an increasing number of appreciative customers.
"one of New England's most 'genuine' general stores"- ConnTact magazine
The store quickly became known at 'the place' to get a good deal on a stove and its reputation grew. Soon, stoves were more than half the business and furniture - antiques and new traditional - made up the rest.
Over 70 National and International Awards
Jacob's son Joe joined the business in 1978, and now runs it since Jacob retired in 1989. The store stays true to its roots; serving up the best deals on the world's best stoves, fireplaces, hearth accessories, and home furnishings. Caring customer service from some of the best trained, highly sought after technicians in the nation is part of the store's draw. People come from all over to shop Preston Trading Post, but you knew that already!
